Reading paths of the poetry of Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen in the subjects of Portuguese A and B of the 12th year

Abstract

Since the canon is an open system and Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen is an author who began her literary life from the 1940s onwards, she is still in the stage of constitution of her status as a classical author. However, the progressive recognition of the merit of his work in both the Portuguese literary scene[1] and in the literary landscape across borders[2], as well as the fact that, since the end of the seventies, it has been included in secondary education[3] as one of the authors of the century that for its representativeness in Portuguese culture must be known by young people in formation, is a strong indication that the status of a classical author will not escape.

[1] In 1999, she was awarded the Camões Prize, the highest literary award for Portuguese-speaking authors.

[2] In 2001, the poetry translation anthology Malgré les Ruines and la Mort was awarded the Max Jacob Prize, a prestigious French literary prize that was awarded to a foreign author for the first time.

[3] Although the work of the author in elementary education is not part of the scope of this study, we can not fail to point out that it is contemplated in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd cycles, since her work also contains a directed to the child and adolescent public. Sophia de Mello Breyner Andresen is thus an author with whom the students are cyclically learning.
