World Portuguese Language Day and the seventh official UN language
Abstract
On May 5, World Portuguese Language Day (DMLP), decreed by UNESCO, was celebrated for the first time. Portuguese has thus become the seventh language to have this status and the first that reaches it without being an official language of the United Nations (UN). This is a remarkable achievement for CPLP (the community of portuguese speaking countries) diplomacy, whose immediate objective is the prestige and international recognition of the Portuguese language and the strengthening of its presence in the UN institutions.
